In an official statement, Real Madrid announced it would not celebrate if it won the Spanish title next Thursday because of the coronavirus pandemic. Zidane’s team only needs a win against Villarreal to secure the cup. In addition, in response to an appeal from the Madrid City Council, the club asked fans to avoid crowds on the streets, especially in Plaza de Cibeles. The place is a traditional point of the celebration of the meringue crowd in the Spanish capital.

The statement from Real came to prevent something similar to that of the fans of Cadiz, who gathered in the past weekend to celebrate access to the first division. “We defend that the celebration is not in Cibeles, that there are no crowds, that the celebrations are on the balconies. That the flags of Real Madrid are displayed on the counters, with applause. But, as far as possible, really, that people do not approach the (square) Cibeles” said the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida.

According to the Spanish press, Real Madrid hopes to be able to organize some type of celebration in the near future, at the Santiago Bernabéu, which is currently under construction. However, in the official statement, nothing is said about this possibility.
