The 2020/21 season for Real Madrid has started. Zidane and the club have started to form the squad for the new season and the first reinforcement will be the return of Martin Odegaard. According to different media in Spain, the Norwegian was Zidane’s first request to reinforce the team. The initial information was from Mundo Deportivo, who said that Real Madrid had contacted Real Sociedad to request the termination of the loan.
Odegaard belongs to Real Madrid but was on loan to Real Sociedad. The 21-year-old midfielder, who was one of the highlights of the last Spanish Championship, intended to stay two years at the Basque club and return to Real Madrid in the 2021/22 season. However, due to the pandemic, the clubs are cutting investments in signings and Real Madrid chose to reinforce the squad with the player’s return.
In the 2019/20 season, Odegaard played 36 games with Real Sociedad, scored 7 goals, and gave 9 assists. The midfielder helped the team qualify for the Europa League next season. Odegaard was signed by Real Madrid when he was just 16 years old and now he can have his first opportunity in the main team.
